Church Rates 1601 and 1613

Todd Gray, Exeter, 2016, Copyright Cornwall & Devon Record Society and Todd Gray, 2017 and then giving us her own copy. This volume contains two tax lists for Bratton Clovelly:

  • 1601 Church Rate: The rate for the repearinge of the church Confirmed by the right reverend fathere in God William Lord bishoppe of Exeter, the theirtteth day of October in the year of our Lord 1601.
  • 1613 Church Rate: On the reverse is a note that ‘Mr Corendon I pray you to take the best course that may be concerning this for I cannot get so much prchment to engros the same, you know our rate is confirmed by our lord Bishope I what you pay I will satisfy you. Thus committing you to god ptection, Your loving frinde to command Andrew Pengelly, William Luxmoore’.
