The Northlew Circuit of the Bible Christian denomination, a Methodist offshoot very popular in West Devon, included Providence Chapel in the village and Boasley Chapel, two of the three Bible Christian chapels in the parish. Gilgal Chapel was the first chapel in the parish, built in 1834 where the ‘The Old Sunday School’ now stands. Providence Chapel replaced Gilgal as the village chapel in 1859 and served the community until 1983. Boasley Chapel was opened in 1838 and still holds services today.
